The ITL laboratory has four instruments designed to test the material properties and structural integrity of student projects. Instron 5869 Universal (Tension/Compression) Testing Machine (x2)
Use the Instron 5869 material-testing machines to test the tensile or compressive strength of a sample material or structure. They are controlled by custom-programmed, easy-to-use software that makes training, preparation and data acquisition for tests simple, safe and convenient. A 10,000-lb or a 1,000-lb load cell may be used in the machine, depending on the load requirements for a test, and the following grips are available:
- Tensile grips
- Compression plates
- 3-point bending apparatus
- Rope grips (must borrow from Mechanical Engineering lab)
Instron 55MT2 MicroTorsion Tester
The 55MT2 torsion tester provides high-accuracy torsional measurement capability up to 2,000 in-lb. The self-centering grips make sample placement simple and convenient. The machine is controlled using Instron’s Partner software, which allows complex testing procedures and advanced data analysis.
Tinius Olsen LO-TORQ 10,000 in-lb Torsion Tester
Proving that the word “LO” is a relative term, our Tinius Olsen provides torque capacity up to 10,000 in-lb. This machine uses a simple, button based system for controlling test parameters. However, a LabVIEW program is available for acquiring test data from the machine.
