| Experiment Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Heat Conduction | Study linear and radial heat conduction with two heated modules. The linear module has interchangeable samples of conductors & insulators to show the effects of area, conductivity, & series combinations. Conductivity of user samples can also be determined |
| Heat Engine | A nearly friction free piston system is used to perform constant temperature or pressure experiments. Conversion of thermodynamic energy to mechanical work can be shown using a heat engine cycle. |
| Heat Exchangers | Examine the performance of heat exchanger configurations (concentric tube, shell & tube, plate, stirred jacketed tank). Temperature & flow rate is measured for both hot & cold streams. Overall heat transfer coefficients & efficiencies can be determined. |
| Heat Transfer Through Wall | Predictions of heat transfer through walls in the ITLL are compared to measured values. One-dimensional transient conduction through the four walls of the ITLL south light monitor are considered. Data and further instructions are available by going to http://blt.colorado.edu and clicking on Experiments. |
| Hydraulics Bench | The Hydraulics Bench is designed to accommodate a range of accessories, each of which demonstrates an aspect of hydraulics theory. A centrifugal pump supplies flow to the chosen accessory and flowrate is measured by rising water levels in a volumetric sight glass. |
| Hydrostatic Pressure | Determine the hydrostatic thrust acting on a plane surface partially or fully immersed in water. The plane surface is one side of a torroid shape supported at a pivot point. Hydrostatic forces are balanced by small weights. The measured force and the position of the line of action of the thrust can be compared with theory. |
