Testing Lathes (x4)

CNC Lathe with Centurion V Controls
This computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathe is excellent for round work, turning and scrolling, and precise threading (internal and external) in English or metric units.
In addition to the introductory safety workshop, you must have completed a Lathe Workshop to use this machine.
Use: Metals, polymers, composites
Do NOT Use: Wood, hazardous materials
Special Notes
- 14-inch maximum diameter swing
- 36-inch maximum length
- The +z-axis is always oriented away from the spindle.
- The x-axis corresponds to diameter.
Engine Lathe
This engine lathe is excellent for round work, turning and scrolling.
The machine has more horsepower and can work larger pieces than the small tool room lathes.
Use: Metals, polymers
Do NOT Use: Wood, hazardous materials
Special Notes:
- .5-inch minimum diameter
- 16-inch maximum diameter
- 48-inch maximum length
- In addition to the introductory safety workshop, you must have completed the Lathe Workshop to use this machine.
- This machine does NOT have a digital readout.
- There are low and high speed options for the motor. Turn it on to check speed.
- The small hash marks on the dial correspond to 2/1000 of an inch off of the diameter.
- Be careful to set up the stop so the tool bit does not run into the chuck (use stops).
- To engage the spindle, pull the lever up all the way. The machine will run if the lever is not all the way up, but this is hard on the clutch.
- To stop the spindle, the lever must be in the horizontal position. Be careful, because the lever can go down past horizontal, putting it in reverse.
- For emergency stop, use the red stop button.
- Do NOT leave chuck keys or wrenches in the machine.
Tool Room Lathe (x2)
This lathe is used for high-precision tooling and threading.
Use: Metals, polymers/acrylics
Do NOT Use: Wood, hazardous materials
Special Notes:
- In addition to the introductory safety workshop, you must have completed the Lathe Workshop to use this machine.
- 3- and 4-jaw systems
- 3-jaw chuck: jaws scroll in and out together
- 4-jaw chuck: jaws operate independently
- 8-inch maximum diameter
- 24-inch maximum length
- Lock chucks clockwise for forward operation.
- For reverse operation, stop and lock the chuck counter-clockwise.
- For emergency stop, use the red stop button on the lower left of the machine.
