The goal of the Success Institute is to prepare students for an education in engineering at CU-Boulder and a career in engineering.
Participation in this program is limited to Colorado high school students who are educationally or econmically disadvantaged or are from populations typically underrepresented in engineering colleges and the profession.
Starting in the summer after 8th grade, success-oriented students attend multi-day workshops which provide students with an introduction to engineering. Two 9th and 10th Grade Commuter Workshops (for students entering 9th and 10th grade by Fall 2008) are held at the Denver School of Science and Technology and at Centaurus High School. The 5-day/4-night 11th and 12th Grade Residential Workshop is held at the ITL Laboratory on the CU-Boulder campus.
Parents attend the last day of each workshop to watch presentations made by their children and attend panel discussions. These same students may return each summer of their high school years, transitioning to college at CU-Boulder Engineering and subsequently graduating to join the engineering profession.
The program is a collaboration between the Integrated Teaching and Learning (ITL) Program , the Mulicultural Engineering Program (MEP) , and the Women in Engineering Program (WIEP).
