Descriptions of the Student Positions

  • Application Developer & System Management  

    The Integrated Teaching and Learning Program is looking for an Application Developer and System Management student assistant to help support the maintenance of the ITL network. Tasks include, but are not limited to, helping manage user accounts, building and installing software sets for multiple configurations, repairing and replacing hardware on workstations, debugging software installation problems, documenting workstation and server installs, and collecting all necessary software on CDs for reinstallations.

     

    The Application Developer will also be responsible for maintaining, extending and developing software applications that are used for student administration and other system management tasks.   The student assistant will work independently on complex and sometimes challenging projects with minimal direct supervision.

     

    Starting pay is $10.00/hour. This position is expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week while classes are in session, however, the schedule is flexible. Additional hours are available during semester breaks and over the summer, if desired.  

     

    This position will start immediately and has potential for long-term employment. We prefer students who have the availability to continue employment as long as they are a CU student.  We do consider first-year and sophomore students so they have time to learn the complex systems of the ITL.

     

    Minimum Qualifications : CU-Boulder engineering student who is familiar with the ITL Laboratory and its computer and network systems. Experience with Windows operating systems and a commitment to work at least one year (spring and fall semester).  Applicant needs to be highly analytical, a good problem solver and interested in finding new solutions and learning new technologies to solve problems.  Good communication skills are also crucial. 

     

    Preferred Skills: Familiarity with the following: .NET programming (Primarily VB.NET), developing in Visual Studio, database programming in .NET, using system debugging tools like RegMon, FileMon and ProcessMon, Symantec Ghost and building and testing computer images, Active Directory and account management, Scripting in VBScript, Javascript, AutoIt, etc. administrative experience with Windows 2003, 2008 server and Windows XP Pro and Vista.

  • ITL Web Developer
    The Integrated Teaching and Learning Program on the CU-Boulder campus seeks a web-application designer and developer to assist in redesigning, rebuilding (including entering content), maintaining, and evolving of our website ( http://itll.colorado.edu ). Must be able to write, maintain and troubleshoot pre-existing web code. Experience with HTML and PHP is required, and knowledge of Flash, JavaScript, IIS, Access, and MySQL databases is a plus.

    Starting in July 2009 with the possibility of continuing through the 2009-10 academic year; ~20 hours/wk in July and early August 2009 with the possibility of 8-10 hours/week thereafter; $11 per hour.

  • TeachEngineering XML Tagger
    The Integrated Teaching and Learning Program on the CU-Boulder campus seeks an undergraduate engineering student to create XML documents of pre-college classroom engineering lessons and activities for the TeachEngineering digital library collection at http://TeachEngineering.org . Applicant must have good computer troubleshooting skills, editing skills, organizational skills, and must be detail oriented. Experience with Authentic and SVN is a plus, although training in these areas will be available.

    Starting in May 2009 and continuing permanently at 10 hours/week, $11 per hour.

    If you are a CU-Boulder undergraduate engineering student with these skills, are self-motivated to learn, and want to work on a nation-wide university project that helps teachers and young students learn about engineering, this job is for you. All undergraduate majors will be considered.

    Technical Support
    As an ITL Technical Support (TS) student you work cooperatively with students, faculty and staff in a customer service capacity to support and check out the ITL Laboratory's supply of instrumentation and experimental classroom modules. No PC use, studying, video games, TV, etc., while working. TS student duties include, but are not limited to:
    - Providing continuous, roving facility supervision weekday evenings and weekends during the fall and spring semesters
    - Serving as a helpful information source for students using the facility
    - Enforcing use policies, expectations and safety
    - Conducting ITL Program orientation tours
    - Maintaining printers (jams, toner, paper restocking)
    - Testing LabStations
    - Making miscellaneous repairs
    - Cleaning white boards
    - Modifying and repairing experimental modules, etc.

    Applicant must be a UCB engineering student.

    Preferred:
    - Familiarity with ITL software and hardware.
    - Prior use of ITL LabStations and experimental modules.

    Students work 6-20 hours per week. The pay rate is $10 per hour.

    Shifts:
    M-Th 5-8pm (3 hours)
    M-Th 8-11pm (3 hours)
    Sun 1-6pm (5 hours)
    Sun 6-11pm (5 hours)

  • NSF  TEAMS Student Volunteers
    The ITL Program is seeking engineering students of all majors to lead hands-on engineering activities to youngsters in Lafayette elementary schools' extracurricular program. The work requires 2-4 hours per week. The following times are available: Mondays, 2:45-3:45PM, 2) Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30PM 3) Wednesdays, 2:30-4:30PM, and 4) Tuesdays, 7:30-8:30AM.

    Also, looking for students to mentor middle school students from Ocotober through January with their Invention Convention/Science fair projects: any day Mon-Thur, 3:45-5:00PM.

    Requirements: Must be a CU-Boulder engineering junior, senior or graduate student, must have your own car to get to Lafayette (11 miles east of Boulder), demonstrate excellent communication, possess an interest in K-12 education and working with young students, and successfully pass a background check.

  • Undergraduate Engineering TAs
    The ITL Program is hiring responsible UCB engineering students to serve as undergraduate teaching assistants for GEEN 1400: First-Year Engineering Projects .

    Students are asked to work 8 hours per week. The pay rate is $10 per hour for seniors, $9.50 per hour for juniors and $9 per hour for sophomores. Applicant must be an undergraduate UCB engineering student.

    Must be available to attend class times for the following section:
    Section 060/061 - M 1-150, WF 12-150

    Preferred:
    - Students who have completed GEEN 1400 or 3400.
    - Familiar with the ITL facility and its equipment and resources.

  • NSF GK-12 Fellowships
    The ITL Program is hiring CU-Boulder engineering graduate students to teach in local K-12 classrooms as science, math, engineering and technology resources, develop and pilot curriculum materials, and serve as engineering role models for young students.

    Each fellowship, funded by the National Science Foundation, provides a half-time GRA stipend funded for periods of months. For more information Click Here.
